Wang World Competition

Protected attempts, authoritative timing, server-side solution checks, score calculation, and leaderboards designed to compare like with like.

Competition combines a server-timed attempt, an authoritative puzzle definition, and validation of the submitted final board.
Competition combines a server-timed attempt, an authoritative puzzle definition, and validation of the submitted final board.

Competition mode uses the same board interactions as local play, but the server controls puzzle identity, timing, validation, and leaderboard acceptance. This keeps official results comparable without preventing private offline experimentation.

Starting an attempt

An official puzzle attempt remains active for two hours, so refreshing the page or receiving a site update does not immediately erase your progress.

Finishing securely

Completed Competition boards are checked against the official puzzle rules. Only validated solutions can enter the leaderboard.

Leaderboard policy

Each puzzle retains the fastest ten qualifying results, with only a username’s best result represented. Usernames are short public labels; no account is required. A result can cease to qualify if the leaderboard changes before the name is submitted.

Time and Score

The leaderboard ranks elapsed time. The broader player Score is round(Complexity / elapsed minutes), so fast solutions to harder puzzles contribute more. Pausing is unavailable because an official clock must remain unambiguous.

Local solving remains private

Solving an official definition locally does not call the Competition finish endpoint and cannot submit time, completion, or leaderboard data. Use local play to study mechanics; start a fresh protected attempt when you want a comparable result.

Fair play: Competition validates outcomes on the server, but it remains a friendly puzzle leaderboard. Automation belongs in local solver experiments, not human rankings.
